Lebanon - Fourth Conference of the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network “Reconciling Hopes with Realities in the Fight against Corruption: Paving the Way for Innovation” (Sunday, April 14, 2013)
Under the patronage of H.E the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon, ACINET is organizing its fourth conference entitled “Reconciling Hopes with Realities in the Fight against Corruption: Paving the Way for Innovation” in Beirut on 14-16 April 2013, with the joint support of the Ministry of Justice and the United Nations Development Programme, and in cooperation with a group of partner organizations. The Conference is held at the ministerial level and will be attended by anti-corruption leaders from across the region and high-level representatives of active governmental and non-governmental bodies, in addition to distinguished experts and representatives of regional and international organizations and partner countries.
The conference will provide participants with a unique opportunity to review their anti-corruption efforts and explore ways to reinforce them by sharing experiences and expertise and learning more about the most recent developments at the global level in this field. Discussions are expected to support participants in finding innovative solutions that enable them to further progress in strengthening transparency, accountability and integrity and reducing corruption opportunities with a view to reinforcing their countries' ability to respond to citizens' aspirations and the requirements of sustainable development and social justice.
On the side of the conference, ACINET will hold the fourth General Meeting of its members, preceded by the second General Session of its Non-Governmental Group. At their conclusions, ACINET will adopt its progress report for the period of 2012-2013, which was chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco, and will identify its priority areas of work for the period of 2013-2014 which will be chaired by the Republic of Lebanon. download agenda

Tunisia - Article written by Mr. Mohamed Moncef El Marzouki, President of the Republic of Tunisia on Anti-Corruption in Tunisia (Tuesday, April 09, 2013)
In a unique initiative, the President of the Tunisian Republic published an article focusing on anti-corruption, in which he addresses the phenomenon and discusses mechanisms to combat it, focusing on 5 pillars: (1) political will; (2) the Supreme Independent Council on Anti-Corruption; (3) transparency laws and a specialized justice; (4) technical expertise and (5) civil society. The close cooperation between the Office of the Presidency of the Republic and UNDP’s Regional Project on Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries on related initiatives is noteworthy, such as the ongoing cooperation for the development of a law against illicit enrichment in Tunisia.

International - "What’s Yours Is Mine: New Actors and New Approaches to Asset Recovery in Global Corruption Cases" (Monday, April 01, 2013)
In its latest policy paper – “What’s Yours Is Mine: New Actors and New Approaches to Asset Recovery in Global Corruption Cases” -- the Center for Global Development (CGD) looks at what it describes as an ‘evolutionary process’ in the battle against corruption. Progress has been made in finding and prosecuting the guilty, but more effort and imagination will be needed for changes in accountability and transparency to continue, according to the paper.

Not Assigned - Arab Countries and the Government Defense Anti-Corruption Index (Tuesday, January 01, 2013)
Corruption in defense engenders numerous inefficiencies and dangers to society at large, and constitutes a highly charged and sensitive topic. Transparency International (TI) launched the first global analysis of this issue “The Government Defense Anti-Corruption Index” in January 2013. It analyzes the corruption risks and vulnerabilities in 82 countries, representing 94% of military spending in 2011 in the areas of political, financial, personnel, operations and procurement risk. The index places each country in a band from A (very low level of corruption risks) to F (critical level of corruption risks).

International - Jakarta Statement on Principles for Anti-Corruption Agencies (Wednesday, November 28, 2012)
On 26-27 November 2012, current and former heads of anti-corruption agencies (ACAs), anti-corruption
practitioners and experts from around the world gathered in Jakarta at the invitation of the Corruption
Eradication Commission (KPK) Indonesia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to discuss a set of “Principles for Anti-Corruption
Agencies” to promote and strengthen the independence and effectiveness of ACAs.

The Corruption Eradication Commission is organizing on 26-27 November 2012 a meeting with Anti Corruption Agencies from around the world in Djkarta, to discuss the meaning of independance and also to agree on a number of principles for those agencies. It is expected to discuss possible avenues to promote these new principles. This meeting is supported by UNDP and UNODC.

Lebanon - PM Najib Mikati chaired a meeting on Anti-Corruption with the "committee charged with reviewing anti-corruption policies and conventions signed by the Lebanese state" (Friday, November 09, 2012)
Quoting Justice Minister Chakib Crdobawi in 2013 Lebanon will face two challenges the first is that the Lebanese Minister of Justice will chair the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network (ACINET) which requires internal readiness, and the second challenge, which is the most dangerous, is the assessment of the level of corruption by United Nations organizations in texts and practices, and in accordance with what is stipulated in the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, signed by Lebanon few years ago "
